mCPP

What is mCPP?

mCPP or meta-chlorophenylpiperazine belongs to the chemical class of piperazines. It is an active breakdown product of the anti-depressant Trazodone. Furthermore, mCPP is used in scientific research on serotonin receptors. In 2009 and 2010, mCPP was regularly found in pills sold as ecstasy. Now it rarely if ever happens. There were pills in circulation with only mCPP as the active ingredient, but also pills with mCPP and (a little) MDMA (the active ingredient of ecstasy).

Effects

mCPP, like ecstasy, increases the amount of serotonin in the brain. The effects vary widely. According to some users, the effect resembles that of MDMA. Most people do not find mCPP a pleasant drug to take. They experience negative effects such as nausea, dizziness, anxiety, hallucinations, restlessness, chills and headache. It could trigger migraine attacks in people who are sensitive to it. mCPP has no stimulant effect. This is because it has no effect on the amount of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain.

Dose and route of administration

The dose of mCPP is between 15 to 40 mg. You cannot tell from the appearance of a pill whether it contains mCPP or MDMA (or both). Therefore, always have your pills tested at the drug checking service.

Duration

The effects last for about 4-6 hours.

Risks

The higher the dose, the greater the chance of the above negative effects. Overdose can lead to anxiety, confusion, restlessness, drowsiness, red skin, trip effects and increased heart rate.

Combined use of mCPP with other drugs that increase the amount of serotonin in your brain, such as ecstasy and antidepressants, can potentially lead to serotonin syndrome.

There is no evidence that mCPP is addictive. In contrast to ecstasy, there are also no indications that (repeated) mCPP use is associated with brain damage and memory problems.

Participation in traffic is strongly discouraged.

Interactions

Combining different types of drugs can be risky and unpredictable. Combining medications can put you at a higher risk of health problems. In the following sections, you’ll read about the effects and risks of some common combinations, as well as some that can be extra dangerous. See also the theme of combining drugs.

Unity tips

  • ALWAYS have your pills tested! Some of the pills sold as ecstasy may contain substances other than MDMA.
  • Be careful about taking multiple pills, especially if you’re not sure what’s in them.
  • Rest well beforehand and eat healthy.
  • Be well informed at the Unity stand.
  • Do not take drugs if you are not feeling well physically and/or psychologically.
  • Listen to your body.
  • Make sure you have people around you that you trust and that you use in a familiar environment.

FAQ

How do you dose powder or capsules?

To be able to weigh a certain dose properly, you need a good scale. Have a scale that can weigh milligrams, to 3 decimal places (0.001 mg). A scale that weighs 0.01 (2 decimal places) may be just accurate enough for MDMA, but not for many other substances.

Where can you find such a scale?

On the large international online webshops you can find scales for around 20 euros that can weigh 3 figures after the decimal point. You can buy empty capsules in different sizes at pharmacies, smart shops or drugstores. Some are also suitable for vegetarians. You can write the drug and dosage on the capsule with a waterproof marker or a CD marker.

How is it possible that some ecstasy users see bar tables?

A side effect of MDMA, the active ingredient in ecstasy, is that your vision isn’t as good as it normally is. For example, you can’t focus as well because your eyes move quickly back and forth. Your brain likes to understand things. So it will then fill in things so that you can see things that are not there (hallucinate). People see bar tables for example, or fences or sunglasses. If you take a high dose, you will get hallucinations faster.

What can I do if I experience complaints after the use of party drugs?

Some complaints after using drugs can last longer and then medical explanation or even treatment may be necessary. Brijder has set up a national consultancy for party drugs for this purpose. If you have complaints, you can call the party drugs medical consultancy: 088 – 358 29 40. It is only available in the Netherlands.
